Pair two sets of data from the same table

I have a table containing a list of printers. The search is by asset number. Printers are issued to users and are returned for repairs. When returned, a loaner printer is temporary sent to the user. I need to pair (associate) the two machines, save them like that and later release the loaned printer with a possible history on which loaner was sent and when. Also, how do I display them in one form (sub form I presume) but each form should have a separate search. From this form I am expecting to print the delivery sheet.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks

I'm not sure what you mean by pair the machines, as to me they're associated with users, not each other. I'd have a table with the user ID, printer ID, start and end date/time fields and any other needed fields. Perhaps one for the printer ID of the "assigned" printer the loaner is temporarily replacing.

Users have multiple devices, and that is why I focus on received/loaned device. I like to keep those two associated until the "switch" is made and the loaner is returned.

I'd include the field I mentioned in the table for the original device then. I have a somewhat similar situation with leased vehicles. Sometimes one needs to come in for maintenance, we give them a loaner. I keep track with a table like I mentioned, and I do have that field for the "original" vehicle so I know both the assigned and loaned vehicles.
