    Create .maf file

    Hi

I did this ages ago but cant remember what I had done!!

On the network I have a few .MAF files when double clicked will open access to a particular form within the database. I cannot remember how I created these .MAF files! (Access 2016).

    Thanks in advance.

An MAF file is a shortcut created automatically by Access e.g. by just dragging it onto your desktop or into a selected folder in Explorer
You can create similar shortcuts for any database objects in the same way

    Hi Colin

Thanks for taking the time out to reply. I did try that in the first instance, but when I drag it to the network folder (which I have access to) or even my desktop, I get the circle with a line through it which obviously means I cannot copy it here.

    Thanks

Possibly a permissions issue. I've just re-checked with all 6 types of Access object - this time using A2016 (365). Works for me

There used to be a different method up to A2003 - IIRC you could right click on the object but that's no longer available AFAIK

I definitely have access to the folder and I can create new files / folders in the directory. I have also tried dragging them into the folder which I had created previously that currently holds MAF files but still get the circle with line through it.

It needs to be an ACCDB file
It won't work if you are running an ACCDE file - the built in security will only let you do the shortcut for tables & queries
Similarly not for ACCDR or if you are using Access Runtime
