link a qry to a designed report

Marching along with my project I have made tremendous progress thanks to you guys here on the Forum. I have designed a report based on a query and it looks just like I need it to except when I go to the qry and filter it I am not sure how to link the two so the new displayed data is showing on the pre-existing report. Right now when I filter the results in the query the old data is still showing on the report. I can create a new report but it is not in the format that I need it to be. How can I link the two or save the report as a template that I can use with the new data?

The query is qryCoaching and the report is Coaching. I need to be able to filter by name and date in the query or on the report to change the data displayed.

If the report is open, then after modifying the query with the filter, close the report and reopen it.
    Edit:
Notice that the report is showing records for both McGhee and Banta lumped together under Banta's Heading.
You need to add Grouping to report to separate the names into respective groups.
