find the most recent date in a string of dates

    I am new to Access.
I have nine potential dates in the record for each person in a table, denoting the dates of a progression of events from one to nine in the performance history for that person.
Some of the dates are blank because of incomplete historical information, some are filled.
I need to to find the most recent date in the series, and this would typically be found in the highest numbered event
Once found, I need to set a value in the record corresponding to the event in which the most recent date was found.

    For example:
In events 1-3 the dates could be blank.
In events 4 5 & 6 the dates could be present.
In events 7-9 the dates could be blank.

I want to find the newest date, which would logically be in event 6 (in this particular case), and set a field in a form to read "this person is a SIX"

I have looked at help for nested IFs, FIND, and can't seem to get it figured out.

Am I trying to do something that is not doable?

If anyone can point me in the right direction, I would be most grateful.

These are fields in a record? Not normalized, but see if this helps:
