    Correct Historical records or not

    Hi

I'm doing a Canadian Military Lineage DB and have a procedural question.

A four units were authorized on 1 Apr 1908, under GO 60/08. On 1 Jun 1908 this was amended with GO 120/08, changing the numbers for two of the units involved.
(21st Alberta Rangers ==> 23rd Alberta Rangers, and 23rd Mounted Rifles ==> 21st Mounted Rifles)

Question: Should both of these be entered as is (as 60 days in 1908 is a short time frame to correct) or enter it as corrected?

Most people (me) will forget about the name change and will look for the units under the proper name, but in officialdom is is as written. I know this gets down to how the database will be used, but I'm asking because I'm torn. How have you handled this and what problems are there to be aware of?

After some thought, I have decided to go with the historical style. Research quality, both names link back to same unit, the ability to enter other info (letters, newspapers, memos) to even shorten up the time un corrected.

    Thanks for the help
