I have a table with 3 pieces of data; date, serial number, order number. I want to return the most recent order number but require the order number and the serial number to be used in the next step to generate the final results.

For the data shown above, I would like the table to contain 1 row - serial number - MX4316973 and order number 360200042.

Each date has a different order number so group by, first, last, min and max see m to be of no use.

Do I have to do this in 2 steps - 1 - to get the most recent order number and 2 - append the serial number then move on to the third query for final results?

    Thanks in advance
