Append query into multi-valued field linked SharePoint list

Hello,
I'm linking a SharePoint list into my db, and I would like to be able to append records from the db into the linked SP list table. The problem is that one of the fields on SP allows for multiple selections, and thus is will not allow me to append records. It gives me the error: An INSERT INTO query cannot contain a multi-valued field.

Is there an easy way around this?
