Display of text in forms and in print.

I am farly new to Access and I am trying to set up a Database for my Family History. I have set up a Key Field to show a reference number for each individual, the problem I have is that when I try to enter a ref. no in the format "2xGrGF-0001" whilst it displays correctly on entry when I move to the next field it reverts to all uppercase "2XGRGF" also appears as this on printouts. Could anyone please assist in solving the problem.

    tho 2XGRGF & 2xGrGF are the same (datawise) ,
but the system would not alter the case you enter, unless you have some setting in FORMAT property, or MASK ,or VB code to alter it at the entry point. (or printing point)

As ranman256 said...you or someone else has dropped the hyphen from the string and changed the data entered to all uppercase...the Access Gnomes woudn't do this unless they were instructed to.

Has anyone else contributed to this db?

Have you attempted to modify the Control in any way?

Have you attempted to modify anything in the db recently?

There is another possible cause - autocorrect settings in Access options:
