    Post User was placed in a new domain and has to access Database through another computer in old domain

    I came upon a user that has two computers. When the company changed domains on her computer, she could no longer access a database. She states that a tech at the time copied a file from another computer in the old domain to her computer and she can now use the database as long as both her computer and the computer in the old domain is on. The database is on neither computer. How can I get rid of the "middle man"?

    What exactly did tech do? Set up means for initiating VPN connection to old computer? Or something different? Is database divided to front-end and back-end?

    What you mean by "middle-man"? Has the tech to help the user every time the user wants to use the database, or it is someting else?

    Simplest way to use database in another domain is:
    1. Database is splitted to front- and back-end;
    2. On Terminal Server in domain, a profile is created for user;
    3. The front-end of database is copied into desktop of user's profile in TS;
    4. For user, an OU is created in domain, which has VPN access to TS, and has proper rights to access TS and back-end of database;
    5. In user's regular computer, means to invoke VPN connection to another domain, and to start a session on TS are configured.

    Whenever the user needs to access the database, he/she starts the VPN connection, logs into TS (unlike his/her old computer, it is always online), and starts the database front-end on desktop. After the work is ended, the user logs out from TS, and closes VPN connection in his/her computer. It's all. Tech's part is to create the OU, and to give proper rights.

    Whenever is decided, that the user doesn't need to have the access to database anymore, in old domain the user's OU is closed, and user can't connect to old domain anymore.

    There may be another option too. When same organization has several domains, it is possible to set trusts between domains, e.g. users from certain user group in one domain are allowed access to certain resources in another domain. But this is a way over my head - you have to consult with network-guys.
