Access to automatically export to excel.

    Hi All

I'm relatively new to access, but was wondering if there was a way to get access to automatically export data in a table to excel, the same way that excel updates linked tables with access?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Can you provide more details about what you need to do? There are different ways to do this within Access, some more complicated than others depending on your specific needs, but there is nothing built in where it's just going to automatically happen without any interaction from you or the users. On the other hand, maybe you are talking about working from within Excel and using Access as an external data source, connecting to an Access table? More specifics please.

A colleague of mine has created a very complex excel spreadsheet and while it is very good, the people who will be using it on a day to day basis are not very computer literate.

I basically planning to create a form to use as an interface, just drop down menus and buttons, that part I can do. But I want to be able to get the data that is put into the form transferred into the excel spreadsheet without having to rely on the user exporting it themselves

This can definitely be accomplished, but, again, there is no out of the box way to do it in Access. Especially if, as you say, the spreadsheet is complex. That often involves transferring data to non-contiguous cells in one or more worksheets. So, you are likely going to have to roll your own function here to accomplish what you need. Are you comfortable with VBA? Below are links to some threads that deal with this type of scenario, reading through them may help you find the info you need to solve your problem.

Alternatively, if you can upload a sanitized version of your db and spreadsheet I can take a look. You may or may not be able (or willing) to do that, but it's an option.

if you are only using access to be able to use forms for input and you are happy with your clients excel file have you considered using the forms available in excel?

And using excel as data storage for access is generally a bad idea, if only because excel is single user, lacks indexing, relationship management etc.

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
