Unable to remove spacing between rows in report

My report consists of rows of information, something like a table. I am unable to remove the empty spaces between each row of information in my report. I have reduced all padding to zero, line spacing to zero, reduced the height of the detail row to the smallest it can be, and ensured that the height of all my controls are the same. However. There is still a space between each row when I click the print preview. Is there something that I'm missing?

Does your report include layout guides around groups of controls? If so, you should remove them.
This may cause several controls to move so make a backup copy before doing so.

What do you mean by layout guides? How do i know whether it has layout guides? As I need the rows to grow, and yet have a border around them, I used a 5x1 text box, with each control in each column

Layout guides are created automatically if you use the report wizard and in my view are a PITA.
In design view you will see a dashed line surrounding several controls.
To remove, click the line and select delete. Repeat till all the little 'blighters' are gone.
    Remember backup first.

If that still doesn't explain it for you, please post two screenshots of your report - design view with property sheet visible and print preview
