    Concordance database delimiters þ

I need to import many text files that use the character þ (ascii 254) for text delimiter and (ascii 20) for field delimiter. I am getting error messages when trying to import the text files into Access. How can I get Access to get these characters? I do not want to get into each text file to change them. Files are huge and give trouble even when linking.

    Thank you

Maybe first do find/replace on the characters to something Access can recognize.
How to attach file: http://www.accessforums.net/showthread.php?t=70301 To provide db: copy, remove confidential data, run compact & repair, zip w/Windows Compression.

Here is a db where I was able to link a text file using your delimiters. Please note that for the text one I had to manually edit the specification in the MSysIMEXSpecs system table (go to File/Options/CurrentDatabase/NavigationOptions and enable viewing System Objects). You might also have a look at the MSysIMEXColumns table that holds the field details. I was getting errors trying to import the file but linking seems to work OK and now I could use an append or make table query to finalize the import.

    Cheers,
