keep getting data type mismatch

I am trying to consolidate data in a totals report. I have imported repairs date but want it by month. So I created a query that has a new field, [NewDate], that I use date format on. Then i create another new field, [RealDate], and use date value on it.



Then i created a second query and used the [RealDate] field to try to run the totals query but I still get the data type mismatch.

I am just trying to get the monthly total for all repairs in date format so it will sort correctly. If i do it with just the format it is text so October - Dec come right after January.

you can sort by yymmdd, but show Oct...

do you mean format as mmmyy so it says oct instead of 11?

You are using Format() function? Why? don't you have a field with a natural date? Use report Sorting & Grouping features. Sort on natural date and calculate another field to format with month name and bind textbox to that field or set formatting in textbox.
