    Database Recovery from slave drive

Hi, I know this is probably a long shot but I figured I'd ask.

I used a database on a slave drive that seemed to fail.... I've been able to recover most of the files through various tools but of course not the database. Still trying a few others out, if anyone has a suggestion of one I'll certainly try it.

My question is, It was on a second slave drive not my operating system or access drive. I've opened the database 100's maybe 1000's on this computer, is there any chance it was saved locally someplace? I know that would probably be too good to be true but I figured I'd ask.

    Thank you in advance.

Also any drive recovery tool that might help, I would certainly take recommendations.

no, the db exists where you place it.
That is why i run daily backups. A button copies the db to another network folder, off the PC drive and dates the file.

Following on from Ranman (again!), if backups have been made there is a chance these were saved to a different drive - in fact that would be standard practice

Someone once told me 'NEVER open an Access db on a thumb drive' (also meaning stick, flash drive, whatever you want to call it) and I think they were speaking from experience. I know it's too late for you now, but I'm suggesting you refrain from doing so going forwards. Then again, by slave you might not be referring to said thumb drive so you can only file that suggestion away for future consideration.

Also any drive recovery tool that might help, I would certainly take recommendations.
I used Recuvah on a usb drive that freakin windows 10 formatted on me without my help. Got back a decent number of files but not everything. There are a few "free" versions of recovery software. This one doesn't seem to have a limit on the number of files or gb's that you can recover without payment when using it.

Thanks Micron, It was a slave drive not a USB.

I ended up using DMDE, it seemed to find the most files and only cost $20 for their full version. Well worth it. I did try Recuvah and a host of others but DMDE definitely came up with the most files. Even had the file I lost but with 0 bytes.....

I did send the drive out, not that anyone cares but I'll update you if I get the database back.

Thanks for telling us about DMDE.

Wayne Phillips (EverythingAccess) who participates in some forums offers commercial services for Access database recovery and conversion of mde/accde to mdb/accdb etc. I don't know if your situation fits into his services or not, and I have not used his services, nor am I affiliated in any way with him, but you could check out his site.

I hope you get your database back, and let us know how it all works out.

    Good luck.

Thanks Orange, I didn't know about his service.... Good to know. Hopefully, I learned my lesson and don't need his service..... but you never know!

    Good luck.
There aren't many (if any) forums with details and outcomes of your lost database issue.
So any feedback you offer will be useful to others.

I would be interested in reading about your experience with sending the drive out. I got an estimate of anywhere between $300 and $1000 - depending. So I still haven't decided to do that.
