How to lock field on form

I have a form for adding new records into the table. When I pull the form up I would like the records not to be editable(so locked) until you go to add a new record than I want the fields to be unlocked.Attachment 33089

What mechanism did you plan to use to indicate the user wants to add a new record?

I was going to use the navigation bar add new record button but I could just add a button to the form and then use VBA to unlock the fields I need unlocked, Right? Didnt even think of this til I read your post
