Table 10 times larger than source workbook

I have an Excel workbook of 1544KB but when I import it into Access 2007 as the only table, the database size is 10408KB Why is that?

    Thanks

Field sizes on tables that come directly from Excel are usually the max of 255 characters long. You could go into the table design and make each field its correct length and see if that helps. Also, not sure what state your database is in, try Compact and Repair.
