Dynamic Lookup Value (unmatched values only)

I have two tables. One is called Locations, the other Players (digital signage players, think small computers, not athletes). I want to be able to assign a player to a location. Easy enough, I can create that lookup reference.

Here's the complication. I only want unassigned players to show up in the dropdown list for the field "AssignedPlayer" that's in the Locations table. I can create a query that only shows unmatched players, but can I tie that to the lookup field? Seems a little circular.

Can anyone tell me how to do this?

    Thanks!

I don't use and wouldn't recommend using the lookup field at the table level, if that's what you've got. I'd use your query as the row source of a combo box on a form.
