I have some experience with Access and did a course some time ago, but I'm far from an expert so I would very much appreciate any help with planing a project that I'm working on.
I work at a language school and we have a lousy, really old school management database that's more of a problem then anything else. So we decided to make a new one.
So, as far as I see it, we need:
- a tbl with our students and their contact info
- a tbl with our courses
- a tbl with our teachers
- a tbl with payment data (every student has to pay for the course, and they can do that in installments or as a one time payment, so I have to take that in account too)
That I believe I can manage on my own, but I have no idea how to structure the database so that I have a school year or semesters (some courses are semester courses and some are yearly courses). Do I make a tbl_SchoolYear and link it to a course (eg. English 1) that I then link that course to students who attend it? But what do I do next year when I have English 1 again, but now with different students? How can I "assign" students to a course in relation to a specific school year/semester?
I don't know if I've explained this clearly enough. Hope someone has an advice on how to go about this.
