    Access 2013 won't open a 2016 Database

I have distributed my 2016 database, and several users are unable to open it because they are on the 2013 version. I know the problem is that 2013 does not support the large integer feature. I modified the tables to take out Large Integers, however the access version is still 16.7 on the original database, which means the 2013 users are still unable to open it. Here is the question. If i convert the database to an earlier version for the 2013 users, will the converted front end still communicate with the back end which is still version 16.7? I am really hoping it will but I am doubtful.

    Thanks,

    Garret

you cannot open new db versions in old Access.
You CAN keep the db in the old version, and all new versions of access can read it.
you should be able to convert it backwards for compatability.

as Ranman says, newer versions of access will open older versions of access, but not the other way round. But this primarily refers to forms/reports/code etc. The ACE db engine should remain the same (bigint excepted) so
will the converted front end still communicate with the back end which is still version 16.7?
it should do providing the back end does not use bigint - if you do use it, you'll probably find the file will open but you'll get errors for the bigint fields. Like all these things, always better to try - make a simple db with a little bit of data and see if you can set it up as required.

Otherwise as Ranman says, save the backend as an earlier version as well. Providing you don't need a bigint datatype, it should not be a problem
