Changing Field Names automatically on a report

I have a report based on a crosstab query. The query returns totals for the last 10 years with column headers for each year. When I found the report it had not been run in a decade, meaning all 10 fieldnames were no longer valid. It did not take me long to fix, but obviously no one knew how to update this report. Is there a way to do this automatically when the new fiscal year begins? It would involve changing 10 label caption and 20 text box control sources, one each for both the detail and report footer.

I'd like this report to live on after I'm gone (to another job).

Not sure, but general approach may be to have currentYear, currentYear-1, currentYear-2, ...currentYear+1, currentYear+2 etc, then populate accordingly based on Date().
I don't see any advantage to explicit dates eg. 2014, 2015, that would need to be reentered/updated each year.
