Excel refresh blocks Access data entry

    Dear Community,

Framework: I have an Access DataBase that is divided in the front (FE) and back end (BE). I also have an Excel file that is linked to the backEnd and is used by the users in order to have a prompt way to consult and work on the information they want.

Problem1: If the BE is being updated by one user, or if the FE is requesting some information of the BE, the other user cannot get its Excel updated.
Problem2: Somehow and just sometimes, after the Excel is used the BE becomes "Read-only" and the FE becomes inoperative (after a period it changes to the normal working state).

Question: Since Access has the ability to have multiple working connections, is there any way to prevent this incompatibility?

    Best regards,
    Simão Nóbrega

Any time someone opens the linked excel file, it's going to lock it for all other users, why would you have people updating an excel file as a primary data entry point, why not build the design into your access database and prevent these record locks?

    Rpeare,

Thank you for your reply. Users don't update access database via Excel (I eliminated the updated from my first post). They introduce information on the BE via the FE that each user has in the computer. Excel is only used to make graphs and to work with the information. This Excel is linked to the BE, this means that when a user opens the file it Updates with the new information.

First, the file should be linked to your front-end, not the back-end. Users don't use the back-end so there is no need to have the data available in the back-end.

There is a way to share an Excel file so that multiple users can update the data at the same time. This should prevent the file from being locked.
