Importing Excel & Data Entry into Main Table

I'm wondering if it makes a difference that data that is entered into a table by way of a form's combo boxes that looks up fields from other tables enters numbers in the main table but data that is imported from Excel spreadsheets shows values for the same fields.

    Any thoughts?

    Importing is faster.

Yes, I understand that, but the end Users would like to be able to manually enter some data as well as importing data so I'm wondering if I should change the combo boxes and make the value bind to the table in lieu of the primary key.

You need a table design structure. The importing would be an optional function - either the data is imported and placed in the table(s) and then that data is shown to the user who can then add or change the data. Or if there is no import then the user can still add/change the data. The import is secondary to the main function which is to place the correct data in the correct table(s).

How confident are you in those entering the data manually to avoid typos etc?
Can you validate/verify/edit/confirm these entries after they have been entered, but before they are saved?
