    System requirements for SQL server

    Hello Everyone,

I am in the process of purchasing a new laptop and I am learning how to use SQL server. I will need to use sample databases like Adventure Works and Northwind to write SQL query.

My question is: Are there any specification requirements I need the laptop to meet in order to use SQL?

For example, if get an SSD drive rather than HDD will I have sufficient storage capacity? Do I need a minimum amount of RAM?

FYI - apart from work and studying the laptop will mainly be used for web browsing not for gaming or storing films etc so the main consideration is that I have the right spec for SQL.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Kind Regards

What version and edition of MS SQL Sever are you planning to install?

    See:

I would recommend getting a laptop with Widows Server OS not a desktop OS.
