Prevent Users from Creating and Using Pinned Shortcuts to Open Database

Is there a way to somehow prevent users from being able to pin a shortcut to the database via the taskbar/Access icon or the Start Menu/Access program shortcut? I find that some employees are going to their database via these pinned shortcuts instead of the desktop icon, which is bypassing certain checks that load before the log actually opens. I have it set up to verify the version of their front end with the version on the server and if it is outdated then to automatically update, but by using these pinned shortcuts they are not allowing the database to run through those checks. Is this even possible to prevent an icon from pinning? I uploaded screenshots of the places i'm referring to if that helps.

I doubt it is possible to stop users from pinning things to the taskbar or start area but you could certainly have your application look for a command line parameter and abort if you don't see it.
