Record locking information file is using an older version of access

Our computers at work were recently upgraded from 2010 MS Office to 2016 MS Office (When they did this 2016 MS Office did not overwrite the previous version of MS Office 2010 and we currently have both versions on our computers). Some employees were given laptops and they have the MS Access database on their laptops and on their desktops. However, on their laptops, the record locking information file on their laptops display the 2010 version of MS Access. How do I change the version on record locking information file to the 2016 version of access?

do you mean the lock file? .lacdb?

you may have upgraded Access app, but not the db.
youd have to run a conversion to upgrade the db to 2016.

So you shouldn't have both versions of Office on a PC. That is not supported by Microsoft anymore. That is fundamentally your fix - delete the old Office.

The question itself isn't about Access per se but about Association as in if the extension ends in .jpg which application due you want to default open with....

In your current situation one could open Access 2016 generically and then within its 'Open File' feature go find the file you want and double click on it and it will be in 16. It is only if you double click on the file directly without any Access yet open that it is going to 'associate' to the old version and launch it.....

It IS possible to run both, but you must start the Access you want to open ,rather than dbl-click the db file.
Sometimes tho, it does cause problems and one must be removed.
