Access won't insert a date on my form!

I have a database with a field which I have set up produce a date when I enter the number. It appears as a date on the database and also in a report that I run. However, in the form I have made it won't create a date but just comes up as a number. When I put in a date it just reverts to a number. The calendar icon is available, but even when I enter it with that it will not put a date in, just a 5 digit number which doesn't correspond with any date.

I have looked to see if there is something on the form template which I have to set for a date but as of yet have found nothing. What am I missing? Thanks in advance.

Dates are stored as numbers (doubles, where the decimal portion represents the time. Today is 42758). Make sure the textbox is formatted as a date.

Thank you. Do I do that formatting option through the database or on the form itself? In the database that field it is formatted for "date/time". I get the correct info in the database and any report I run, but not on the form.

By textbox I meant the format property of the textbox on the form.

Click on the text box in design mode and on the properties tab, look under format. What does it say?
