    Access DB on network

    Hello,

Can I use the access database on a network so that multiple users can access it and add to its database?

I wanna created a real estate database similar to www.realtyware.com

EDIT: is it better to create such a software on Access or Visual Basic? We have a large database of properties and clients.

    Thanks.

To answer your first question, you can set up Access to work over a network like that by setting up what's called a "split database." Basically, you'd have a database file somewhere on your network that stores all the information. Then you'd have a second database with all the Forms, Reports, etc. that each user has on their computer. The second database simply connects to the the first one to access information, allowing multiple users to access the same information at the same time.

For the second question, how you develop your application is ultimately up to you. However, because of Access' built-in capabilities, I'd recommend just using a split Access database unless you believe you already have enough programming experience. Access will have a much shallower learning curve.

Just be sure, whatever you do, to devote sufficient time to the "planning and design" phase of creating your database/application. Google "normalization" and use it aggressively - you can never have an over-normalized database!
