    Slow in design mode

Some database are excruciatingly slow when making changes to a form in design mode. And if the form has a subform, going between the main form and the subform can take minutes. The database is about 300mb, not all that large, and I am forever doing a compact/repair in the hopes that it will fix it.

It is not a timing issue - i.e. a slow network at certain times - as it seems to be database related. Does anyone have any ideas?

I would look at your printer. It can really slow down the process even though you think it should have nothing to do with it.

Hmm, it's a network printer, not a lot I can do about it. I will change my default, see it that helps.

That is exactly what you need to do. Change to a local pdf printer if you have to.

Tried PDF Creator, OneNote, XPS Document writer - none of them made any difference.

Amazing that you both were so confident, it must be a known issue.

I'm thinking that maybe none of those are local, would that be it?

Do you have a local printer? How about a Text file printer?

No there are no local printers. What's a Text file printer?

Is there a way to say "no printer" in Access?

Adding this printer has helped a bit, it has cut the time down between clicking to about half of what it was.

    Many thanks.

Have you checked for a Virus? It sounds like something is sucking up your CPU cycles.

IIRC, the local printer does not even need to be your default printer, just defined. Good luck.
