    It is in office 2003 (office 11) and isn't in office 2013 (Office15) and I don't have version 2003.

I am reading a ebook and it uses this database for exercises

access 2013 will still open the file - but have you looked in templates for the latest version? open access select new if not already opened and then type northwind in the search bar

Be careful of those databases that are downloaded. They are not what they seem.
If you open the northwind database and open the employees form. If it is a true Access 2003 database you will see a woman with short brown hair in a grey/brown jumper with a gold necklace. If you see a red hair woman with a grainy bitmap photo (what I have found so far) this is a very old Access 1997 database that has been upgraded for Access 2003/2007. It does not have all the bells and whistles that a true Access 2003 database has (the coding functions but may not be as clean).

True Northwind Database 2003 with employee bmpmaps for the pictures

I have uploaded my Northwind 2003 database with the correct employee bitmaps.
I have not used the login features (workgroup information file). There is no separate login form listed inside the 2003 database so this must be a setting on your system. Did you use the default system.mdw workgroup information file or do you have a company specific security file?
