Create relationship, one to many or many to one?

Am collating info on the emergency gear bat rescuers have. One table contains the names of the rescuers, the second a long list of rescue gear they should have, with a yes/no field next to each item. Am stumped as to how I import and utilise the filled in s/sheets the rescuers are sending me. Sorry this sounds a little scattered - don't know how else to set out the question...

It sounds like this will be a many-to-many relationship.

One rescuer will have many pieces of rescue gear
One piece of rescue gear will be used by many rescuers.

Without knowing your requirements, I would start out like this:

    tblRescuers
    rescuerID_PK Autonumber
    rescuerFName Text
    rescuerLName Text
    other fields

    tblEmerGear
    EmerGearID_PK Autonumber
    EmerGearDesc Text
    other fields

    jcntRescuerGear
    RescuerGearID_PK Autonumber
    rescuerID_FK Long (link to tblRescuers)
    EmerGearID_FK Long (link to tblEmerGear)
    RescuerGearDate Date/Time (maybe??)
GearCondition Text (although this could be a link to another table)
    other fields as needed
