Question text box custom currency fomat not working

I used to be able to have a custom currency format for a text box on a form such as: $#,#00.00;; which would show positive numbers as $32.00 (for instance) and zero values as blank. It was never a negative value. But now I cannot use this format on new text boxes. If I enter $#,#00.00;; and press enter the two ";;" are removed! Old fields defined this way work correctly but I cannot enter new fields with this format. What changed in Access? How do I do this now?

    Try
    $#,#00.00;;""
instead. works for me (Access actually inserted this itself after a few tries although I tried it on the table level).
