Can an autonumber be coded to reset based on other data?

I am logging issues during end product performance testing. All testing is done for the site the equipment is going to. I want the issue count to restart for each site. If I have two sites Alpha and Delta, I want the numbering to restart for each so site Alpha will have a issues 1, 2, and 3 and Delta will have issues 1, 2 and 3. I already have an autonumber serving as the key field for the table. Wondering how to have another one that resets based on the site name.

It may be better to make it an integer instead of an autonumber and put it under your own control. Autonumber is not supposed to have meaning associated with it, just a random meaningless number.

You can create an artificial numbering system (if it doesn't matter if what was marked as 1 today might not be tomorrow based on new data entry) on reports using the running sum function of reports. If your tests are going to be in the same order every time (in order by primary key field) then this would likely be an easy solution to the problem rather than making it part of your data entry process (even if it's automatic)
