Combobox to autofill a field in subform datasheet view-new record

Hi i am trying to explain as simply as possible. I have a combobox on my main form which when I select (a company) from it , it then autofills the relevent fields (employees) in my subform. My subform is datasheet view and data entry = yes. My subform then shows all employees of that particular company. I have set the subform to data entry = yes so that I can add a new employee. However, the new record line doesnt "inherit" the Company name and I have to select it again. What am I doing wrong? Thanks

Try changing Data entry to No as a test.

Ok I have redesigned my tables. I had Contractor name in both tables! It now works but I have another question. Is there any way I can "lock" existing records but still be able to "add a new " record in the subforms datasheet view?

IIRC, if you lock the parent/main form and do not allow edits, this will affect the subform. So instead, allow edits on the main form and adjust the properties of the each of the Main Form's controls that are bound to your table(s).
