SharePoint list includes Date field - formatted as Number data type when linked in Access

I linked a few lists from a SharePoint site to Access 2013 and discovered that Access sets the Data Type for that filed to Number. While Access displays in correct value in View mode, it's treating the data as numbers underneath the covers.

I really want to use those date values. What's the best approach to fix this? Should I modify something on the SharePoint side? (not desirable) -- or adjust something on the Access side? (more desirable)

The data data in SharePoint is formatted as:

    d/m/yyyy

    Any help is most appreciated.

Well, I fixed my problem. It turns out that SharePoint List 1 contains a Lookup field to a Date field in SharePoint List 2. In Access, that Date field in List 1 has a Data Type of Number and the Date field in List 2 (the Lookup list) has a Data Type of Date/Time. I simply joined those two fields in a query and search for a date in the actual date field (not the number field), and got the results i wanted.

    Whew!
