    Allowing Multiple users

    Good Day all,

Can anyone explain why some of my access files can be opened by multiple users simultaneously and others can't?

my files are on a shared directory on the network.

I don't want to use Splitting the database backend and front end approach because I would then have to go through the Administrator plus I may have to then go around to the various users computers to set up the front end.

Maybe some of the dB's are set to open exclusively and some are set to open Shared???

Then be sure to make at least a daily backup. Having multiple users in an non-split dB at the same time is a sure way to corrupt your dB.
I heard about an non-split dB that ran for 12 years before corruption took it down. Most don't last that long - months or a few years at most.

I may have to then go around to the various users computers to set up the front end.
There are several automated methods to update the FE without having to manually copy an updated FE to a users computer.

I tried to keep my DB whole and have multiple users and it got hosed within 3 months of allowing the users to all use it at the same time. Since I split it I have not had any other problems with that. You shouldn't have to go through your administrator to split the DB it would be the same as making a new DB that only has tables in it. it could be in the same folder as the rest of the DB.
