Linking to Excel file - data format questions

I am linking my database to an Excel file that I receive on a monthly basis. One of the columns is either populated with a null value or a single digit. At times the link seems t interpret this column as a Number field and other times as a text field. Is it possible to set up the link so that it always sees the field as a txt field?

I don't think you can change the "field type" of a linked file.

You might/could format the Excel column as TEXT before linking....
