    Import Errors AutoNumber Field

    Hello,

(I'm very new to Access, please excuse me!)

I have been updating our Access database with customer information by importing Excel files. The files seem to import fine, but there is always an Import Error table created, called something like "Sheet1$_ImportErrors3" These Error tables only have the ID field listed as "Null Value" - no other part of the spreadsheet fails to import.

If I understand correctly, these errors are appearing because I left the AutoNumber field blank in the Excel doc. However, I left if blank on purpose so that Access would populate it for me. (Because it's an AutoNumber) When I check the tables, everything is fine: all the data imports successfully, and Access populates the AutoNumber ID field.

But I must be doing something wrong. How do I avoid generating the Error table? (And: Have I corrupted our database?)

    Thank you!

    -CB

If you truly have an Autonumber field set in up in Access, you do not need to have a column for this on your Excel file. Just leave it off completely.

Do not import this excel 'autonum'.Attach the XL file as a table ,then run an import query on only the fields you want.
