How to apply an automatic filter to a table when opening a split document

    Hi There,

Thanks in advance for any help, and my apologies if this has been asked before (I hope it is a simple fix).

I have created an Access document for my colleagues and all is well, except everytime you open the document, the previous filter is lost.

Is there a way I can make it so that when opening the table, it automatically filters the data to exclude any 'complete' forms?

    Details:

Document opens with a 'cover sheet' form to link to the appropriate table
Once the hyperlink is opened, the 'unfiltered' table results appear
It is a fairly comprehensive list of data, and we wish to hide any lines that have now been marked as 'complete'.
    I am using Access 2010

The document has been split, but I have access to both ends.

My knowledge on VBA/queries etc. is limited so would appreciate a dummys response!

    Thanks all,

    Alex

What is an Access document? Cover sheet?
It's generally accepted that you should NOT be opening your tables and directly editing them. You should be presenting the records in a form view and applying the filter at that time. That filter can be a query or code, either of which can use hard-coded criteria to filter the results, or get values from a form. Or the form's record source should exclude all records marked as complete, thus no filter is required at all. Filters are generally used to trim record sets that have already been defined but where you want a subset of those records based on some fluent situation. Perhaps I misunderstood your post...

    Hi Micron,

Thanks for your response - as I said before my knowledge was limited so this definitely helped push me in the right direction. Ultimately i just used 'filter on load' to achieve my desired result.
