    I wasn't suggesting it was your responsibility alone. It was a statement regarding data management practices within the organization.
    If you know pieces and parts are no longer used, then perhaps it's time to review the related business processes and consider a redesign of the supporting application. Perhaps IT should be involved -- tasked......

    The split is a requirement for multi user. It does not improve the speed - it prevents corruption.

    For a speed issue what you should do now is put both front/back files on the same PC and trial it in single user mode. This represents the ideal speed wise because no network is involved. If there are any issues in this mode then you do have a design problem or possibly corruption to resolve.

    Note your times/speed - and then begin to move to a normal deployment by putting the back end at its normal/planned location. Test your times again. Then copy the FE and deploy. Test times at each step.

    Slowness can be caused by any link in the chain; heavy load on server, bad networking segment, domain permission issues, lack of RAM in PCs relative to table sizes, etc.
