    Report by Categories

Hi, I have a report sorted by categories. What I am wanting to do is have each category subtotal income/expense under the same category. Problem is they are different categories. I have each category as Category - Income, Category - Expense. Is there a way around this please? Thank you!!

I'm not sure it's clear what your data structure is. Can you post something that clarifies that, perhaps a sample db?

Thank you for your reply. I have done up a sample db. The report in question is called 'Expense by Category'. The original name before we made a few changes so not changing the name without having to reconnect everything at this point. Our main input form is 'Account Transaction List'. On the user front end I have it set up appropriately so no one can mess with anything. Just trying to sort out the report which is causing issues due to the way I have structured the Expense/Income. I hope that all makes sense. The goal is to have the categories include both income and expense so we can input budget and keep an eye on how each category is going with expenses. It is also very helpful at the end of the year (we do jan/dec year) when things get written off or we have insurance bring money back into a category. Thank you.

p.s. was hard trying to get the size to 500k!

You tried too hard; can't see the linked tables.

You should be able to put it all in one db, compact and then zip.

SampleDB.accdbDer! I didn't even think to zip the file. Have redone it for you. Hopefully it will work this time. Thank you so much for your help.

That still has linked tables...unless the one beer I've had was too many.

i don't understand why it is doing that as it doesn't have any linked external tables. It runs independent on my pc. What am I doing wrong?

Not on a PC right now, but the tables were linked to a file on an E drive if I recall.

Sorry, I've been out of town. Did you get this solved? If not, what would you expect to see in the sample report?

I hope you were out of town for pleasure.

Has the database come up okay this time?

In the report, I am trying to figure out a way of having the same categories come up under the same categories. Problem is I have them sorted into expense/income and this causes them to come up under different categories in the report. I ultimately want to have a running subtotal for each of the categories but I'm not able to do this. Is there a way around it?

Yes, the db came through fine. I was hoping for a visual or something like that. Maybe it's too late in the day, but I'm not following the description.
