    Link File Import Error

    Hello All,

**EDIT** Sorry for the confusion, I'll try to explain better.

So I run a query out of an internal mainframe system, this query exports the data to excel. I then Link this excel file to access so i can append my table each month, the problem i am having is that the export from the internal system automatically changes the name of the tab in the excel file to the name of the query i run and adds a number which indicates how many times I've exported this file, so for example I tell it to save the file as Query.xls but the tab within the file may say Query (23).

    Like so

The issue then becomes that my append query is looking for a tab in the link file called Query without numbers, so if the number is there it fails to append. Currently I have to open the export file and delete the number so that access can find the data i want. I was hoping there might be a trick out there that will help me avoid renaming the tab so i can just export and append without manual intervention.

    Thank you for your help.

    Your terminology is confusing.
...each time i populate the link file the dump query auto names the tab e.g. Query (1), Query (2) and so on each time i run it, this messes up the link as it is looking for a tab just called Query.
Please tell us the file name involved.
Please tell us the sequence of events starting with the file being imported.
What exactly is the "link file"? and "Dump query"?
    Please elaborate
looking for a tab just called Query
Perhaps you could tell us in plain English what you are doing step by step.

Normally, you would import a file into a table in your current database.
If you wanted to import several files into different tables, you would set up some logic to do the remaning in sync with the imports.

But maybe I'm mis-understanding your intent.

Please reply to this thread with any new information or opinions.
