    Password protection

    Hi

How can the develpper add some password to the final app, so that
the end user will not be able to edit the app .

Only the developer that knows that password can edit the app .

    Thanks
    Elico

To protect the design of your app, which I'm assuming you mean (as opposed to preventing anyone from using the app) you don't need to password protect it...just convert it into a mde or accde file...depending on what file format you're currently using. You can go to Help and enter accde and you should get most of the help you need.

    Basically, you need to
    1. Compile your file and correct any problems that arise
    2. Make a backup copy of your file (or two...or three!) and store it in a safe place
    3. Now convert the file to mde or accde

Step #2, above, is necessary so that you, as the developer, can make modifications, as needed.

Step #3, above, prevents the end users from accessing/editing the design/code of your app.

Now you simply distribute the newly created file to the end users. If you need to make modifications, you go back to your safely stored mdb/accdb file, make your changes, and repeat Steps 1-3, above.

If this is an app that is split into Front End/Back End configuration, as it should be, in a multi-user environment, you'd only do this for the Front End, which holds everything except for the Tables.

Note that the design of macros, queries and tables (and their data) can still be changed in an accde or mde. That is why many also disallow the shift bypass (for as much protection as it provides). Assuming it's not an Access feature you can turn off, when you make the compiled file Access automatically makes a backup of the original in the same folder so look for that as well. Some say it's impossible to lock down an Access db 100%, so one has to base the length they will go to on the sophistication level of the user group.

There is/was a contributor on this site who claimed to have pretty much nailed it but would not divulge how. I offered to take a "crack" at breaking his security but the offer was not acknowledged, let alone accepted. Then there is the person whose profile name escapes me that felt they had achieved this using an actual executable (exe) file as the password handler. I'd say 99.95% or more of the people who would use a corporate db (not one that is marketed as software) would not be able to get around that so I would not blame them for claiming they had 100% lockdown. I guess it's relative to who is using it.

    Elico,
You can find answers to many questions by means of Google or Bing.
Also, there are several youtube videos on many aspects of database and MSAccess.

Also - I note you are using 64bit access - when you create a accde file, it will only be able to be executed by others who have 64bit access - if this is distributed within a corporate environment this probably won't matter since the chances are all will be using the same version, if not, you have a potential problem.
