Question Converting split database to SQL

    Hello all,

I currently have a split end database (back end on network) and front end sitting on about 20 PCs.

I'm hoping to migrate the back end to an SQL Server.

Here's the problem: I'm not sure which version of SQL Server to go with (2008, 2012, 2014), and also I'm not sure what edition to get (Standard, Business Intelligence, Enterprise). I'm thinking Standard edition would be the winner here since we're only dealing with 20 users. The database is very small, <1GB.

The next questions that really boggles me is the licensing. There are several different types of licenses (Open, CAL, Server, Core, etc.)

Which licenses should I purchase if I have about 20 users? I'm having a very tough time figuring this out as I'm inexperienced with all of this.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Also if you've used a split end database and switched to SQL server with Access front end could you tell me the flow of how it went down?

Was this not helpful regarding licenses?
