    reliable version for windows 7

I have been asked to look at an application for someone. It was Access 97 databases converted to Access 2007. It has linked tables in SQL server.

It works fine without fault under Windows XP..BUT keeps on hanging at random times under windows 7 64Bit. It never hangs at the same point so I cant point to a particular command etc..

I thought it might be best to convert the Access 2007 database to Access 2010 which appears to work well under windows 7

Can anyone help make this decision

You are running the 2007 database with Access 2010 under Windows 7?

Just do the conversion (is this by importing everything into a new Access 2010 db?) and see if the performance is better.

    Sorry no

They are running Access 2007 under windows 7 but it keeps hanging randomly at different parts of the program.

It works perfectly ok under Windows Xp with the same application and same linked tables

    Cheers

So you have to decide whether or not to buy Access 2010?

I fear the issue will be the same. Differences between the two versions of Access are not that great. What makes you say Access 2010 'appears to work well under Windows 7'? AFAIK, Access 2007 also works well under Windows 7.

The variance in this situation is the operating system interacting with SQL Server.

    2007/2010

So is the opinion of the experts that the hanging of access 2007 under windows 7 is NOT because it's access 2007 and that upgrading to access 2010 will not make a difference ?

i don't want to waste days and days of trawling through code, updating possible drivers etc if there are known issues with access 2007

    thanks

Whoa! I am no expert, just another user and volunteer here. I have little experience with SQL Server and we just upgraded to Windows 7. Some of our computers are 64-bit and some are not. But of the two machines (one 64-bit and one not) that have connected to SQL Server, we have no issues. However, these are Access files created with 2010.

I simply expressed doubts that Access 2010 will behave differently. Unless you can find a testimonial otherwise, the only way you will know for sure is to try 2010.

I am not an expert either but I have not seen any complaints like yours that were grounded on 2007 vs 2010. All complaints have been about slow access to SQL or a back end file server from W7 or W8 using 2007 and 2010.
