ComboBox with input mask to display dropdown

If this is in the wrong forum I apologize, please move as appropriate, I am working on a form so I placed it here.

I would like to create a combobox that is shortcut via pulldown when user entered. The qry the combobox is based on contains over 7000 records. There is additional data in the query/combobox pulldown to facilitate record selection.

I have an input mask on the combobox and the tbl and qry are raw text.

tbl, qry is A01001
combobox is A-01-001

I have been able to type in the combobox the first letter and have it return the first record of the letter (autocompleted and advances to end for some reason)and the pulldown shortcuts from there. Type W get W-01-001 with cursor advanced to the end of the text string and the combobox shortcuts to this record. Repositioning the cursor to type in W-08-___ resets the combobox to A01001.

I have also been able to type across the input mask the entire text into the combobox though at no point does the pulldown shortcut to the record or offer any sort of autocomplete.

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

I've never used InputMask with a combobox so just did some testing. The AutoExpand worked if I tabbed into the combobox but not if I clicked into it. That's just the way it is.
