Controls for subform on Main Form not working

I inherited a database with a form that has controls (drop down lists) that are suppose to filter results in an attached subform. (Both are viewed together). When I try to use the drop down lists, it prompts me a second time with a dialog box to re-enter the value (So I have to do it twice).

Is there a way, maybe through the properties, that I can have these controls work with the subform without having the dialog box show-up. The original developer is gone.

    Thanks so much,

Maybe if you posted your db we could offer some suggestions. That is not normal behavior but it is very difficult to say what might be causing the issue.
