    Lightbulb Upgrading from Access Maybe

I maintain an access database that handles all the tracking of products for a company. I am greatly concerned that users can circumvent the system database security by just holding down shift. I have started to look for other solutions, such as migrating the database to mssql with a winform front end. Recently I have been looking at Info path and I do like what is has to offer.

I have created a database launcher that prevents the user from using the shift key while the database starts, but my application only handles OS's Vista and 7. Presently IT is making the move to get all machines up to at least 7, this could take months for all the terminals.

Can anyone speak on making a move to either of those options or perhaps a different one?

You should also distribute the mde or accde verson of the front end.

Changing databases isn't really the issue just yet (and a huge cost/risk) - the first issue is implementing more security that is currently available to you than you now have. The database you have now simply has not had all the security options established.

You can only lock down a computer/app so much before it becomes unusable. The only way to totally secure the computer/app/dB is to shut it down.... obviously not an option.
After a certain point, it becomes a management problem. Dire consequences if the system database security is circumvent or the processes are bypassed.

We had a guy (lets call him Joe) in operations that thought he knew more than the IT techs. So Joe would "fix" computers that restricted his access. Needless to say, Joe didn't last long......

    My $0.02 worth.
