Lightbulb How to Check if a item has been hired

    Hello All,

I am coming up to a problem where I need to check if an item (in this case a bike) has been hired out or not.
I am going to create a hire form where i can enter the details and this will be linked into a bike form to add the bike to the hire form. I would like this to automatically populate a hire field on the bike table?

Would this be possible? or is there an easier way around this?

    thanks
    Joe

Sounds a lot like Lending Library. You might explore the template.

Open Access and enter Lending Library in the 'Search Office.com for template' box.

    Hi, Thanks June 7

I have a database built up im just creating a Hire form at the moment so would rather there be another way around the problem? I would also like to add something to the original problem. Can i check if the item has been hired on a specific date? How can i do this?

I think June was suggesting that your situation "seemed similar to " a lending library. And, as such, your data model (relationships view - tables and relationships) would be similar. Could you show us a jpg of your tables and relationships?
Based on your table structure readers can offer advice on a query set up.

I am sure is possible and the Lending Library probably demonstrates what you want. We would have to know more about your particular db structure. If you want to provide image as orange suggested or even the db itself, follow instructions at bottom of my post.

Is that subform showing just the bikes associated with the customer?

I think what you need is a combobox that will offer a list of only those bikes available for loan.

Again, this is demonstrated in the Lending Library template. Even if you don't use the template for your db, you could learn from it.

I don't work well from pictures. I like to test queries with data.

Yeah the subform will be used to book bikes to the customer. It will be used to enter the bike ID and then use it as a kind of shopping basket.
I like the idea of a combo box. Ill have a go and try it out.

    Thanks

The point behind using a combo of "available bikes" is to prevent typos/spelling issues.

Eliminate/reduce the potential sources of error.
