Storing and Encrypted field on MySQL

I have a field that needs to be encrypted which resides on a MySQL back end. The front end is Access 2010. Prior to migrating to MySQL, I used the Password field type and that worked great. Since that field type does not work on MySQL back end, I need to figure out how to store that field encrypted.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks...

Sorry, I don't use SQL database, except as links in Access db. I don't manage SQL db. That reference was result of web search. Keep looking and good luck.

Why not encrypt it on the front end before it's saved and un-encrypt it in the front end when it comes back? There are quite a few basic vba encryption algorithms/functions on the net.

Just reread the op and realized what is happening. Password is not a field type, it is a format property setting. The encryption is accomplished by the property setting. The property can be set in table or in textbox on form/report. Anyone who can access these objects can remove the property setting and thus view the actual password values.
