    Speed/perfromance issues with Linked Tables.

I have about 8 users - 3/4 active at any one time. I have a split database. The b.e. runs on a MS SBS 2003. Everyone has their own f.e. and the client machines all run Win7. The b.e. has 13 tables with the customer details holding the largest amount of data and most of the other tables, queries and forms access the customer table regularly to append client data to operational data.

The speed/performance is poor when more than one or two use the database - which I'm sure can't be right. When everyone else if off the database, it runs well.

I recall reading somewhere that it is important to point to the b.e. tables in the "correct way" to ensure speed perfromance but I can't re-find the reference.

Can I apply any simple tips, tricks and rules to ensure that the speed performance of the database is maximised.
Could someone give me a checklist of simple linking protocols to adopt ?

    Jimbo

PS: The worse perfromance is when I'm working on my f.e. (making improvements/updates in design mode) It takes "for-ever" to update.

    Hi Orange,

Many Thanks. The first link contains the stuff I was thinking about (Not connecting to BE using Mapped Drive letters).

I'll let you know in due course if I get better perfromance once I've changed it around. (Yes -I mapped to drive Letters on the server !!!!)

    Regards
